In the distant future, specifically in After Colony 195, Earth is encompassed by orbiting space colonies. The colonists are subjected to harsh mistreatment at the hands of the Earth Alliance, using massive humanoid machines known as "mobile suits" to gain control over them. The perpetrator of this oppression is a clandestine organization referred to as "Oz," which has infiltrated the Alliance's military and lead it down the path of repression. The day has come for the space colonies to launch a counterattack. Five young pilots are entrusted with high-tech mobile suits dubbed "Gundams," and are dispatched to Earth with the intention of conducting guerilla warfare against Oz and the Alliance puppets under their command. In the summer of AC 196, Relena Darlian leads the Earth Sphere Unified Nation's effort towards disarmament. Despite this, the Gundam pilots are concerned about Vulkanus, an OZ manufacturing plant rumored to be filled with Mobile Dolls and lost in space. Meanwhile, the Perfect Peace People organization advocates for more extensive disarmament than even Relena does. To prevent Vulkanus from falling into the wrong hands, the Gundam pilots embark on a mission to locate and destroy it.

The year is U.C. 0079 and the One Year War is coming to an end. Leading the "Hunter of Black Clothes" squadron for the Principality of Zeon is Major Wolfgang, whose black Zaku has served as inspiration for the squad's name. Their atmospheric patrols have caused concern for the Federation, dubbing them as "GM Hunters." It is during a fight against a GM squadron just outside the atmosphere that Wolfgang's fate is sealed.
Universal Century 0079, The Magellan-class battleship Toutatis tracking a Musai-class in its progress towards Side 2 for a preemptive attack following the Duchy of Zeon\'s declaration of war, crash-lands in the Island Iffish colony. What they saw there was a landscape wiped out by poison gas. Eventually, they realize Zeon\'s aim to drop the colony on the Earth. The Toutatis, equipped with a nuclear warhead (hydrogen bomb), attempts to destroy the colony. On the other hand, a Zaku platoon had entered the colony by chance, ordered to subdue and silence dissent among friendly forces.

Ensign Reccoa Londe has provided the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) with information regarding possible mobile suit development at the civilian colonies of Green Noa. Lieutenant Quattro (Char Aznable) with his wingmen Lieutenant JGs Apolly (Andy) and Roberto (Ricardo) head to the colonies to investigate. On Green Noa 1, Kamille Bidan is rushing to the spaceport where the Temptation, a ship a former One Year War ace is on, is docking. He’s hoping to get an autograph from the famed Captain Bright Noa. As Bright explains that he’s on duty, Jerid and company interrupt the two. Jerid smacktalks Bright for receiving a two rank demotion upon refusing to join the Titans and grabs Kamille’s photo saying he should sign it as an elite member of the Federation. The two get into a scuffle and Kamille is hauled off for questioning. Matosh questions Kamille about being an AEUG insider but just then he’s freed after his story checks out. Just as the handcuffs come off, the Gundam MK-II crashes into the building…
