Humanity has been forced to live underground, like moles, to avoid the savage monsters that roam the surface – creatures that are invulnerable to every weapon made by man. The only hope for those below are the Ayanashi – the only ones with the power to defeat them. In one such subterranean city, a pair of siblings discover a battered and bruised boy named Holo. As they get to know him in the ensuing days, Holo slowly reveals his background. However, the city is soon attacked by a monster from above that destroys everything in its path. Holo steps forward to confront the beast, wielding a flaming short sword that’s fused to his right arm. And so begins the tale of how light can once more brighten an eternal darkness.

Ryuunosuke Fujita's only wish is to live carefreely with his friends, but destiny has other plans for him. One night, he discovers Koharu levitating in the air, and a frightening beast from his dreams attacks them. After defeating the monster, Ryuunosuke's father reveals that Koharu is a divine being who can manifest monsters from people's fears, a power that is potent enough to bring about the end of the world if it falls into the wrong hands. Ryuunosuke swears to protect Koharu with the help of Toukaishuu, a team dedicated to destroying monsters and battling those who seek to abuse her abilities for selfish gain. An additional storyline unfolds in Volume 3, where we see "Momo Monogatari: Toshiharu to Tomodachi-hen," featuring Toshiharu and his friends.

Hemisphere, a man-made city in Tokyo Bay, has wiped out virtually all crime by introducing the quantum AI system "XEVEC", through which the "law" acts as a physical force to protect all citizens. Hemisphere is a "utopia", an ultra-nomocratic society in which the righteous are rewarded and permanent peace is guaranteed. Or so I thought. Until that incident... "Boys are creatures whose sight will follow the girl they like wherever she is. And if there it comes the chance that the boy realizes that the girl is in danger, if he is able to save her they will feel the ultimate bliss in life" is something that Harisugawa Tetsu has pointed out, and true enough he has always been following with his eyes the girl named Satomi Mao. Thanks to certain details in their childhood, Satomi has always been friendly with Harisugawa and she has a friendly budding relationship, completely unaware of Tetsu's feelings for her. At first it seems that this "stalemate" will never be broken; however, one day Mao sees a strange mirror in an thrift store and for some reason she feels that she must have that mirror. Mao buys the mirror without thinking twice about it.... But she is completely unaware that the mirror will change forever Tetsu's life as well as her own.
